Photoshop Post Processing Tutorial Links & Why I Won’t Be Offering Any

So lately, I’ve been getting quite a few requests for my post processing/retouching workflow. It is very flattering to receive such requests and my head swells to ginormous proportions with each one.

I have previously given this a smidgeon of thought, envisioning laying in a bed full of the money I would make offering such tutorials. My fantasy came to a screeching halt with the realization that recording my workflow is… work. I hate work. I do this stuff for fun. The time and effort required to remember and record all my processing steps would really suck all the fun up.

I’ve tried it in the past. There are a handful of posts on this blog that I’ve included the processing steps, and holy crap was I miserable trying to jot things down as I did them. Retouching is tedious enough as it is, at least for me, so… I wont be offering any training or tutorials. I can however, suggest and highly recommend training by others.

My favorites… Calvin Hollywood’s ‘Calvinize’, Calvin Hollywood on Kelby Training, Natalia Taffarel, Scott Kelby, Gry Garness & Joel Grimes. Now they are professionals and know how to instruct as well. I also love Glyn Dewis. Another source for developing Photoshop skills is RetouchPro. They offer training by superstars in the retouching industry, including Amy Dresser, Carrie Beene, Gry Garness and more in addition. Check it out…

Oh, by the way, this stuff ain’t free. It’ll cost. Some more than others. If you are looking for free advice, I would suggest YouTube.

Here’s a great one from Scott Kelby:

And one of my favorites from Calvin Hollywood:

Or this one, also from Calvin:

Here’s a beauty retouching tutorial from Gry Garness:

Joel Grimes:

Go on now… go.
Go and push some sliders around. It won’t be too long before you’re offering training tutorials and I’ll be the 1st in line to purchase :)

  1. I second the Calvinize one by Calvin Hollywood. Brilliant set of video tutorials on a range of compositing and retouching techniques. Joel Grimes and Glyn Dewis are also excellent.

I stumbled upon your work through G+, I have you in my circles. You do great work and if you, as you said, have a long way to go!! Man I got a real long way to go.

I am just getting started playing around with lights and only have one speed light. I am member of NAPP and Kelby Training and am getting a lot out of the tutorials especially Joe McNally’s. I found Joe’s really good because of the beginner step I am at and only one speed light, and yet he takes each training session to another height to spur me on to expand. Hmmmm! I guess I do this because I love it too, as it is not my full time job. I own a commercial driver training school and do a lot of instructor training there, but not photography. I am always looking at sneaking away to play with my photography, I am addicted.

    Love your work.
