Late For The Train – Composite
This photo was inspired by Atlanta based photographer, Ryan Gibson. Ever since I saw this photo of his in the January 2012 issue of Popular Photography, I’ve wanted to recreate it. Fred was nice enough to model for me. Unfortunately, most of my exposures were way too dark… how disappointing One day I’m gonna figure this stuff out. I hope… After: The background, an abandoned rail... read more

Graffiti Dungeon Composite
Well what can I say, but this photo kicked my butt. Compositing may not be my thing. We did get a lot of great background images on our recent trip to Salt Lake City, like this one of the abandoned building with the graffitied walls, so I am tempted to try a few more times with some of them. We’ll see. I keep thinking that one day working with Photoshop will become second nature, but instead it just... read more

Zion Pano – Before & After
From the hike Fred & I did yesterday. Three photos exposed -1 1/2, 0, +1 1/2 each (9 photos total) processed & tonemapped with Photomatix then stitched together with Photoshop CS4. Oddly, the stitching in CS4 came out sharper that the stitching in CS5…weird. After: Comparison, before & after (HDR processing & tonemapping done on originals) 3 original middle exposure raw files,... read more

Hiatus
Well, I’m back…sort of. Been away from photo taking/shopping & blogging while I work at turning the small space behind our house into a ‘backyard’. It’s getting closer. Only been a patch of dirt since moving in 9 years ago. I can’t wait to post the before and afters, but that may be a bit, while I fine tune things. The big stuff is done… the flagstone patio and... read more

Experimenting With PS CS5′s New Merge To HDR Pro
Since the arrival of Photoshop CS5, I’ve had a chance to try a few of the new features. Here is an example of how the new PS Merge to HDR Pro compared to Photomatix in converting 3 differently exposed photos. The photo on the left was processed with Photoshop and the one on the right was processed with Photomatix. I think the PS version came out much better, with way fewer sliders to move... read more

Pioneer Woman’s Latest Assignment – Landscapes
‘Zion Snow’ by Regina Pagles ‘Watchman Glow’ by Regina Pagles Well, 2 of my photos (above) made the cut in the first 3 rounds of The Pioneer Woman’s latest assignment – ‘Landscapes’. I was ecstatic…until I read the comments posted on Round 3, directed at the ‘Watchman Glow’ photo. It seems that there are quite a few Photoshop haters out... read more
