Four Umbrella Madness With Carisa
Another from the Don Giannatti Workshop, this one of Carisa. I absolutely LOVED this set up with the four matching umbrellas, and can’t wait to use it again. It’s one of those setups that I’d just like to keep up permanently…like Peter Hurley does with his Kino Flos. I just might Final: Retouch comparison: Close up: Detail: Studio shot: Don’s video of the shoot: Photos... read more

Don’s Videos From The ‘Winner Gets Me’ Workshop
Don posted some of the videos he took during the workshop at my studio last weekend. This is great… now I can reference them the next time I do a shoot. It’s so weird. I have no recollection of most of those set ups. I was having too much fun to pay attention Here’s his post over at Lighting... read more

Portrait of Greg
Really… what can I say? It doesn’t get much better than having the opportunity to photograph Greg. Greg is a truly gifted artist and musician, not to mention rock climber and motorcycle lover. A genuinely intense guy with the most character I’ll probably ever see in from of my camera. Taken during the Don Giannatti Workshop held at my studio last weekend. Lighting Info: All lights are... read more

Thank You Don Giannatti
So if you remember, a while back Don Giannatti from Lighting Essentials held a contest titled ‘Winner Gets Me‘. Well, I won… and I got Don! This past weekend, Don drove from his home in Phoenix to my micro studio located in Springdale, Utah. He brought with him Megan (Just Fab on Flickr), also from Phoenix and the three of us moved A LOT of lights around. Well… Don moved a lot of... read more

Scott Kelby Likes Me!
Well my life is complete! Scott Kelby commented on one of my photos. My head is so big right now. It’s gonna to be real hard to come back to earth and wash those dishes that need to be washed. Damn hard. Here’s the comment, left on my Google+ “I love this!!! You did a great job, and if I had even a tiny part in teaching you one of the techniques you used, then I’m very proud indeed.... read more

Snow White
I recently acquired a handful of wigs, and Carisa was game enough to sport a few during our recent shoot. I loved this one and chose to process it first. Final: Side by side comparison: Close up comparison: Total processing time took the usual 10+ hrs. Honestly, I never really know how long, ’cause after 8 or so, I just lose track. At that point, it might as well be 8 days, since that’s how... read more

Adrienne – Red
Another from my shoot with Adrienne. Interesting thing with this photo. If this were not my photo, and I just looked at the finished image, I would probably assume it was retouched (obviously… NO ONE has skin that perfect), but it’s not until I compare it to the original, that I see it was MASSIVELY retouched. I wouldn’t have had any idea… and I did it! Realizing this, I know that... read more

Peter Hurley: Inspiration And A Compliment
So once again I mention a huge inspiration…Peter Hurley. If you photograph people, you need this: Peter Hurley: The Art Behind The Headshot DVD from FStoppers on Vimeo. It will change forever the way you approach portrait taking. I just joined his PH2 Pro program. What is it, you ask? What is ph2pro.com? “The PH2 professional photographer community is a serious place for photographers who are... read more

Adrienne
My first experience with Model Mayhem was a great one Adrienne came by the studio for a shoot and we had so much fun! Her sister ShaeLee was a fabulous assistant and it was great that she came along. When it was all said and done, we captured 375 images. Here’s my first edit. Thanks to Calvin Hollywood for his awesome masking technique that made my life so much easier! After: Side by side... read more
