The ‘Dark’ Side Of Adrienne…
Model: Adrienne Beacco For the record, this was Adrienne’s idea I draw blanks when it comes to photo shoot theme ideas, so thank goodness for her! She did the make up on herself and on her fabulous sista-n-law, Sarah, who Adrienne then photographed. Just fooling around on this one. This is so different from my usual portraits and I had no idea how to process it. It just sorta evolved into the... read more

Hair Masking The Calvin Hollywood Way
Some of my friends on Flickr have inquired what technique I use to mask the hair. Here’s the secret, from Calvin Hollywood: The photo must be shot against a gray background. Make a rough selection of the subject with the quick select tool, it doesn’t have to be very precise. Drop in a new texture, and change the blend mode to either soft light or overlay. That’s it! Better yet,... read more

Million Dollar Smile
Another friend who was so kind enough to let me practice on her. Thank you, Brooke! This was taken during the Don Giannatti workshop. Special thanks to him for setting up the lights! I applied the techniques learned from the two YouTube videos I just watched on applying eye makeup and fixing the lip line. Let me just say… they worked! Sometimes, after watching or reading a tutorial, I’ll try it... read more

Adrienne
I suck at thinking up titles for my images. Can you tell? Adrienne – After: Retouch Comparison: Closer Up: Eyes” Here’s another, this time of Adrienne, using Don Giannatti’s ‘Four Umbrella Madness’ setup. I spent quite a bit of time on this one, and in the end I feel like I could have done better. It just feels like it’s missing something… not sure... read more

Four Umbrella Madness Experiment With Jeremy
Jeremy stopped by and agreed to test the lighting set up I planned to use the next day for a shoot with my friend Sandy. You can tell by the catchlights in his eyes that I used Don Giannatti’s ‘Four Umbrella Madness‘ that he showed us during the ‘Wacky Winner Get’s Me’ Workshop. It was my first time trying it on my own and I think I managed to re-create it just fine.... read more

Cover Girl Inspiration By Sue Bryce
Adrienne Beacco on Model Mayhem The other day, I had a shoot planned with a model who had gotten sick at the last minute. I had already asked Adrienne if she wanted to assist, so instead, she came by and we worked on the posing techniques I had learned from watching Sue Bryce on CreativeLIVE. I had no idea what to expect, but one major surprise was how deceptively difficult the poses were. They look so... read more

Four Umbrella Madness With Carisa
Another from the Don Giannatti Workshop, this one of Carisa. I absolutely LOVED this set up with the four matching umbrellas, and can’t wait to use it again. It’s one of those setups that I’d just like to keep up permanently…like Peter Hurley does with his Kino Flos. I just might Final: Retouch comparison: Close up: Detail: Studio shot: Don’s video of the shoot: Photos... read more
